Making good time now!

It's been a whole 2+ months since I last posted!

We had some struggles, but have turned a new leaf and are on the right track with Tyler Carlson Custom Homes now! He also happens to be my cousin. He and his crew have been great. Such a different feeling working with someone that respects our time, supports what we want, and helps us find solutions that work for everyone!

This week we moved into sheetrock. Here are some photos to catch you up!

Siding - We would love to have 100% cedar sided house . . but that is not in the budget with the way prices have jumped. We are instead doing a combo of cedar board and batt and LP painted siding. The was the original plan the the other builder, but the how we have the flexibility to add in cedar touches on other ways such as this gable end. It will be stained the same as the front boards.

We've had some good bon fires! The kids played in the water and called it their 'heat shield'

So much wasted wood! We decided to make future kindling with the scrap piles. This chop saw got a lot of work hours in!

Staining, lots of staining. We decided to stain all of our own board before they were installed.

We also upgraded to pine on the porch cover soffits

Oh yes, and the mold mitigation. This process took almost 3 weeks total.
Glad we did it, but it was not cheap.

Lots of trim painting. We didn't want the painter to have to try and paint the trim next to the stained cedar boards on the house, so we prepainted.

More siding and porch cover install

We will be doing rock on the front, and the back in the middle section under the cedar.

Stairs were incorrect slope, so the new builder also had to fix the railing slope.

Fun little feature - a closet for the low volt and home theater components. We will store all of that here under the stairs instead of the loft in the TV area.

Electrical! We had an amazing electrician who was really easy to work with. He is new out on his own, but I highly recommend Shaver Electric out of Lynden.

Mike also did the low voltage in the entire home. Check out these cable runs! All color coded.

Ordered my fridge and freezer!

Porch cover is done!

Sheetrock was delivered . . and Aleesa playing with the spray insulation stuff.

Maybe the best part of switching builders, I get my seamless undermount sink!
Ours will be stainless, but look like this:

We are upgrading and going with a nicer floor and the original
spec home options we had to choose from!

Upgraded tile I will be able to do in the kitchen - before it was going to be a 6x6 square white tile.

Our vision of tying together the two structures is coming together.

Biggest framing issues we had to deal with after paying 100% framing budget to previous builder.

This beam didn't have enough support. So we lost many inches on our master bedroom door :(
Buutttttt I'd rather that, then my house falling down. The beam was supposed to be over about 6 inches over the right side of the doorway with proper support.

Cedar deck complete, tiled porch . . still in progress

The back deck outside the 12' slider is only 4' deep to accomodate county code. We hope to add to it later when budget allows and/o...
